The Wenzelschloss is a former emperor residence on an island in the Pegnitz in the Frankish small town run to the Pegnitz, district country.

History

In 12. and 13. Century was run a realm property of the Staufer and by the Laufer Reichsministerialen was held.

Already 1275 ago the castle came to the Wittelsbacher, before it is destroyed 1301.

1353 acquired emperors Karl IV. the Upper Palatinate and areas to the Pegnitz; so also run. The expanded areas to the Pegnitz combined Karl into .

Starting from 1356 the emperor in the place of the destroyed predecessor castle let a new building implement. Particularly impressive is the "“coat of arms hall"” developed around 1360 in the east wing, which probably served the emperor as sleep-made and also was verziert over 120 eingehauenen coats of arms.

1373 did not come yet completely the castle finished placed the Wittelsbacher.

1504 arrived the castle at the which accomplished 1525-27, 1579, 1649, 1679 and 1736 changes.

Today

Since 1985 are used the lock of the academy of the forming arts Nuremberg as "“branch office run"” and submitted since then of a comprehensive restoration.
