Veste upper house is a fortress on the left side of the Danube, opposite the rechtsseitigen old part of town of Passau. In 1219 it was created for most time the castle and residence of the bishop of the high pin Passau.

After the Viennese congress was used it nearly for one century as Bavarian prison. The city Passau came into the possession of the plant into 1932 and furnished a museum. The castle accommodates a restaurant and a youth hostel.
The "battery in such a way specified lime tree", a terrace of the Veste upper house surrounded by military walls, offers one of the most beautiful and most interesting lookout points on three-river-hits a corner between Inn, Danube and Ilz: The different colors of the three rivers are to be seen from here clearest.
