Timmendorfer beach is a municipality in the circle east Holstein in Schleswig-Holstein.
Geografie
The municipality Timmendorfer beach is 15 kilometers north of Luebeck directly because of the Baltic Sea coast. The beach at the bay is 6.5 km long. The landscape around Timmendorfer beach is coined/shaped by the of the last ice age. The deposits of the Weichsel ice age created a varied easily hilly relief with many lakes. The delightful Hemmelsdorfer lake is actually a cut off by the Baltic Sea. Here one finds the deepest nature-created point of Germany with 43 meters under sea level at the reason of the Hemmelsdorfer of lake. The large number of hills, mountains, lakes and forests gave Holsteini Switzerland to the landscape also the name. A further typical characteristic for the landscape around Timmendorfer beach are under nature protection of standing break.
History
Timmendorfer beach is considered today as one of the Baltic Sea baths with large routistic offer. It exists for approx. 1260 and developed since 1880 to the seaside resort. The local centre at the beach grew historically and reminded still of the period of promoterism with guesthouses and mansions. The eastern local part Niendorf is since that 14. Century as fishing village admits and is a nationally recognized sea-therapeutic bath. The today's fastened port was however only removed starting from 1920.
