A half year long was appreciated in further meetings the outstanding meaning of the building. The ceremonies took place, in order to preserve the Mausoleum, into approximately two kilometers distance of it.

The date of the completion in the year 1654 is disputed. The critics rely thereby on three arguments:

  • The Hofchronist at that time Abdul Hamid Lahori noted in a document that a half year had been begun after death by Mumtaz Mahal (died on 17 June 1631) with the building and the construction period amounted to twelve years. Therefore the Mausoleum must have been finished placed 1644.
  • An inscription over the main entrance contains the year 1648 as indication of completion.
  • From the year 1652 exists a letter of the prince Aurangzeb, the son of Shah Jahan, which means that the Taj Mahal is in need of repair.

In the local media there were presumptions that the was organized, in order to animate the tourism in the region. In contrast to this the tourism Minister stressed that the cause two found books were, which contained the date. Which books were this, he did not communicate however.
