The 1133 created monastic church pc. Maria and St. Johannes of forest-eaten (Bavaria) in its current form in the years 1685 to 1704 one built. Important masters of building of churches such as George Dientzenhofer and Abraham Leuthner created one of the most remarkable baroque churches Bayerns with these Pfeilerbasilika. For secularization (1803) the monastic church, which was intended so far exclusively for the monastery life of the Cistercians, was handed over to the catholic municipality as parish church. 1969 were geweiht the pin church to the papal Basilika minor.
The church room with an overall length of 82 meters is accompanied in the main ship with basilikalem cross section by chapels and lofts. Under the church ship is the largest Gruft Germany. The organ with 7720 whistles is the second largest in Germany.
The church is used regularly for concerts.
