The ring barrier in the Ottmaringer wood is a smaller Hungary protection castle with Kissing in the district Aichach Friedberg in Bavarian swabia. The barrier plant is appropriate for about 150 m north the today's lock property Mergenthau on the Lechrain.
As is the case for most earlymedieval or older barrier plants any written and verbal excessive quantities are missing also here for the history of the castle place.
The today visible ditches and earth barriers are interpreted of the soil care of monuments as Hungary temporal.
As reaction to the Hungary ideas 10. Century developed also in the diocese Augsburg some large protection castles, for instance the waste dump castle with or the Buschelberg with fish oh. Beside these large castles developed on highest arrangement the basic gentlemen and village communities put on numerous smaller barrier plants to the self-protection. Often was done this via the development of older or earlyhistorical attachments or settlement places. Already Widukind of Corvey speaks in its chronicle of smaller barrier castles on the Lechrain, from which the fleeing Hungary after the battle on the Lechfeld (955) were reamed.
The barrier castle is protected in the west by the steep waste of the Lechraines and in the south by a terrain gap, which was surely still additionally abgesteilt. Below that about three meters high barrier crown runs a paragraph, probably a Berme or a filled slope ditch. In the southwest corner the former main gate lies. A natural cut forms a V-shaped gate lane, the barrier jumps reciprocally bastion-like out. The barrier height amounts to here up to seven meters.
In the north and the east the barrier ditch is received and by a modern Holzabfuhrweg two times is only cut through to one and a half meters highly.
At the internal southern gate cheek a verflachter interior barrier with submitted ditch sets. That about 30 meters for a long time, still approximately a half meter high barrier might decrease/go back to a predecessor plant of unknown quantity time position.
The sketch of the castle runs polygonally with rounded off corners (approx. 170 x 165 m).
The ring barrier is separated by the terrain gap from the close castle stable Mergenthau. The earth works of this large, originally welfischen castle kept to a large extent around the today's lock property and to educate together with the ring barrier an impressive ensemble.
The ring barrier was measured together with the castle stable 1975 by the Bavarian national office for care of monuments and taken up topographically.
