The old person Veste is the ruin remainder of a tower hill castle from that 13. Century, convenient in the forest north of Zirndorf, at the highest point of the rose mountain (easternmost of the Cadolzburger of back). Today one can recognize still the rectangular foundation walls of the former military tower, which was geschleift in confusions of the city war of 1387-1389.

The around the castle ruin was approximately 1632 in the war for some days scene of a battle between the emperor-faithful catholic troops under boiling stone and the Swedish troops under king Gustav IITH Adolf of Sweden.

After two days of heavy combat and thousands of dead ones on both sides the battle was broken off by Sweden. In opinion of the historians boiling stone in the battle triumphed, since they could not win so far victorious Sweden.

On the occasion of 250. Anniversary of the battle 1839 on the ruin remainder an observation tower were built, which served the inhabitants of and Nuremberg as local recreation place and was financed by expenditure of shares.

The observation tower and the underlying became in 2. World war by the German armed forces as air defense base and for war production used. The Vestner tower was blown up briefly on 19 April 1945 before the invasion of the allied troops by the armed forces.

1979/80 were built a new tower at the place in the forest, which was established already long to a landmark Zirndorfs.

Today the tower of the old persons Veste is a popular and free of charge accessible lookout point - in good weather one has a exzellenten view of Zirndorf, Nuremberg and even on Frankish Switzerland up to the In the surrounding forest area one can see on a beschilderten Rundgang the places of the of war, the only 400 meters so e.g. removes convenient artillery-digs of boiling stone.
