The Mont d'Or is been appropriate for French law, nearby Swiss border, a mountain summit in north of Vallorbe. Its height amounts to 1463 m M. The comb of the Mont d'Or is approximately 2,5 km long and orients itself toward south north. The south slope of the Mont d'Or with the projection/lead of Pralioux belongs to Switzerland.

The Mont is limited d'Or in the east of the valley of the Jougnena, in the south of the valley boiler of Vallorbe, which is flowed through of the Orbe. To the west a broad ridge leads to the Risoux over and northward is the Mont d'Or by a dip (the deepest point is at 1345 m M.) separately from the adjacent Morond. Over the comb of the Mont d'Or the European main water sheath between the catchment areas of Rhine and runs. The mountain comb is characterized by, the steep cliffs (Falaises), directed eastward, which reach a height of maximally 200 m. On the Schutthalden at the foot of this cliff a characteristic pioneer vegetation was formed. Westward the ridge drops only slowly.

The lining up rock material of the Mont d'Or originates from marine sediments of the upper law time (Malmkalk). In structure-geological regard the Mont forms d'Or together with the Morond a broad anticline, which is interrupted in the east by the deeply cut valley of the Jougnena. This valley runs along an important sheet shift, a break line, which pulls itself from Montricher until Pontarlier across the law.

On the comb range of the Mont d'Or is expanded pastureland with subalpiner vegetation. Below approximately 1350 m M. begin for the law typical boiss (forest pastures). The steep slopes are closely wooded against it.

Today the region of the Mont is d'Or a popular summer moving and winter sports area. Several ski and Sessellifte (only in the winter in enterprise) open the east slope below the Falaises and the northwest slope of the mountain. The elevator back of the Mont d'Or underrun since 1915 of 6.1 km are enough for tunnel you Mont d'Or the line Lausanne Vallorbe Dijon.

After the region of the Mont d'Or the cheese places of the same name Vacherin is designated Mont d'Or.
