The ice age route is 340 km a long experience route in the north-east of Brandenburg, which does not orient itself at political borders and administrative boundaries (districts). The route leads by the districts Barnim and Uckermark past at many starting points of the landscape and the culture.
Landscape
The area was formed by the glaciers of the Weichsel Kaltzeit (before 20.000 to 13,000 years before today). The cold time left reason and Sander, Findlinge, over 500 lakes, Kames, Oser and Drumlins.
The result of this ice age are this very day numerous settlement-historical certifications, like large stone graves, field stone churches and farm buildings, paving races and medieval Stadtmauern.
The thinly settled region with forests and lakes loads to moving, riding, wheel and boat drives.
Route
The "experience route" connects twelve starting points for discovering, experiencing and enjoying the unique landscapes.

Meadow-flow

Lakes
The districts Barnim and Uckermark have altogether 786 lakes of over 1 hectar size.
Project
The holidays road project was initiated in the year 1993 from the "society to the study and promotion of the ice age route registered association" and realized gradually. On 4 August 1997 the holidays road marked by strassenschilder could be opened solemnly.
Numerous orientation boards refer to objects of interest and recovery possibilities along the ice age route. Important geological and cultural characteristics are explained in detail in three languages (German, Polish, English).
