The memorial place of Germans resistance is a monument to memory of the resistance fighters 20 of July 1944. In the context of different initiatives the memorial place was extended several times, developed and transformed.

History of the memorial place

The memorial place of Germans resistance is in the inner court of the Bendlerblocks. On 20 July 1952 the widow of the deceased of general Friedrich Olbricht put the foundation-stone for the memorial.

The senate of Berlin extended the memorial place in the inner court by an intending and an education place, which were opened on 20 July 1968. For the exhibition the historian had responsibility Friedrich Zipfel. After a draft of professor Erich Reusch was transformed the inner court in the year 1980. In the year 1983 the governing mayor of Berlin, Richard von initiated the fundamental development of the intending and education place. The historian professor Peter Steinbach compiled an exhibition, which informs now comprehensively about the German resistance against the national socialism. The exhibition was opened on 20 July 1989. Since then it is in the historical areas of the events from 20 July 1944.

Directly beside the memorial place the Federal Ministry of the defense has its second service seat.
