The Medvednica is a small mountain course, which separates the Croatian capital Zagreb from the area of the Hrvatsko Zagorje bordering north. The nature park Medvednica covers a part of this mountains. The highest point of the Medvednica is the Sljeme, where also numerous transmitting plants are. The mountain can be achieved from Zagreb with an aerial ropeway of the ZET.
Approximately on half height of the mountain massif is the castle Medvedgrad.
The Medvednica is a very popular local recreation goal of the population of Zagreb, since it can be attained from the center within shortest time. In the winter it is also a very popular skiing area.
In January 2005 the first lady Weltcup-slalom in Croatia, in honours of the extremely successful Croatian Skifahrerin Janica Kostelic on this mountain, which learned the ski driving here, found. The reporters baptized the mountain at that time the bear mountain, which as it were a direct translation of the Croatian name is (bear corresponds to the Croatian medvjed). Therefore the Slalom Bewerb becomes also golden bear (Croatian: zlatni medvjed) mentioned. Starting from the year 2007 beside ladies the Worldcup also Mr. Weltcup running on the Sljeme will take place.
