In the year 1589 this place in the exchange was left to the seminar for priests of the diocese Bamberg. There in the year 1611 transferred the Jesuiten the area and established in the year 1686 in place of the Karmelitenkirche the Jesuitenkirche to the child Jesu as university church. Building masters were the brothers George and Johann Leonhard Dientzenhofer. With the completion of the church tower in the year 1696 the foundation-stone for the Jesuitenkolleg was put at the same time.
After the abolition of the Bamberger university in the year 1803 the Jesuitenkirche became the parish church and got the patronage of the torn off church pc. Martin.
The west front of the Martinskirche is zweigeschossig with a Risalitgiebel and front figures: Jesus, Sebastian, Maria and Laurentius.
The position of the tower in the choir vertex is a characteristic characteristic of the jesuitischen building of churches. The interior is equipped with cover paintings, which show those the medal-holy Ignatius of Loyola and Franz Xaver. The illusory dome of Giovanni Francesco Marchini over the Vorraum of the choir is particularly worth seeing.
