The is a looking cave in the forest. It is not to largest part a nature cave, but developed from the mining industry. It is in the center of the two localities Friedrichroda and Tabarz.

The probably most beautiful part of the cave is the Kristallgrotte. Has the name Marienglas the clear gypsum crystal of its use as glazier set before Marienbildern.

Marienglas gypsum is chemically seen. It is called however in this special crystalline form Selenit.

Interesting is also the underground lake. This is crossed with the Rundgang over 70 cm a broad bar.

History

• 1775 building of the duke seriousness lug
• 1778 beginning of the gypsum dismantling
• 1784 discovery of the Kristallgrotte
• 1848 further dismantling of the Marienglas one forbids
• 1903 end of the gypsum dismantling, beginning of the looking enterprise
• 1943 end of the looking enterprise, purge of the lug
• 1968 new locking of the building of the output lug
• 1974 lugs from that 18. Century opened
