Lock sea-yard is the former summer residence and the earlier hunting seat of the Bamberger of prince bishops.

That about 5 km east of Bamberg lock lain is assigned to the municipality Memmelsdorf. It lies in the center of a large ummauerten park plant (approx. 21 hectars) in the Rococo style, to which also Wasserspiele and a cascade belong. In the direct environment are numerous large carp breed ponds and the Memmelsdorfer local part light oak.

History

Established by 1687 of 1696 lock sea-yard on behalf the Bamberger of prince bishop Marquard Sebastian give by Stauffenberg. As a building master Antonio Petrini was assigned. After the client the lock also Marquardsburg is called.

That first rather modestly equipped lock and in particular the park plant were continued to develop by the bishops officiating in each case. Under prince bishop Lothar Franz of beautiful fount was extended the garden plant to its current size and equipped with wells, Bosketten and a hedge theatre. The high point of the horticulture art reached under prince bishop Adam Friedrich of its home, which integrated a labyrinth today any longer not received between 1757 and 1779 among other things, Wasserspiele build as well as over 400 Steinfiguren to set up left. The figures were provided by the Bamberger yard sculptor Ferdinand Tietz. The lock arrived after the secularization in private property and keep-drew in the following 150 years.
