The lock Schwarzenberg is a lock with illusory field in the Frankish riser forest. The structural origin of the lock was a earlymedieval weir system, which was converted later into a representative lock. The origin of the castle is still good to recognize: Militaryclung barriers, Kasematten and military towers still witness from the former purpose. The verzierte palace of the lock stands also from view of different one architecture in a clear contrast.

History

1150: First documentary mention of a castle plant, which was in the possession of the counts to Castell.

1405-1421: After the possession of the family of Hohenlohe and those of Vestenberg knight Erkinger of its home, ancestor gentleman of the house Schwarzenberg acquired, the castle.

1607: Destruction of the medieval castle by a fire.

1608-1618: Count Wolfgang Jacob from Schwarzenberg to high Landsberg let the castle develop as Renaissance lock again. Well-known Augsburger architect-general Elias Holl the plans, execution of construction-lay with the building masters Jakob Wolff, father and son provided. The interior equipment was renewed after the war.

1670-1674: From cause of the collection of the house Schwarzenberg into the realm prince conditions as last construction unit the "“black tower"” was built. It marks the highest building part of the lock.

17. Century: The house Schwarzenberg shifts the emphasis of its rule after Vienna and the lock remained however until 1806 seat of the government and administration of the realm-direct county Schwarzenberg.

1940: The national socialists seized the lock and furnished a gau training course castle. Against end of war German refugees were quartered.

1945-1949: With their raid after Nuremberg the Americans occupied the lock and use it as military hospital. It offered an accommodation to approx. 1000 refugees from the Baltic as auxiliary accomodation of the UN temporarily.

1986: The Dokumentationszentrum for the promotion of the independent Czechoslovakian literature drew into the lock. For this purpose Karl prince let furnish to Schwarzenberg area in the lock. In the lock also a small publishing house developed for printing underground literature.

Today

Karl prince to Schwarzenberg inhabits occasionally the Schloss.Im lock is private Real-und specialized high school of the Mathilde room donation. Guidance are offered by the lock (sunning and holiday starting from 14:00 clock or according to agreement). Information gives the city illusory field.
