The complex lock Schleissheim in the municipality Oberschleissheim in the district Munich covers old persons the lock Schleissheim, the new lock Schleissheim and lock desire home in a large lock park, together one of the most important baroque plants of Germany. It was established of the Bavarian rulers as summer residence.

History

Duke William V. had acquired a Schwaige with a small chapel, which should serve him in its last Lebensjahren as place of the meditation and the prayer in Schleissheim 1597. There it had different farm buildings established beside the yard and from 1598 to 1600 in the neighbouring forests some chapels.

1616 acquired his son, the later cure prince duke Maximilian I., the property Schleissheim and let in "„Italian building method "“old persons the lock build. Here 1679 cure prince Ferdinand Maria died

Old lock

Old person the lock Schleissheim was established by Heinrich beautiful the older one from 1616 to 1623 for duke Maximilian I. in the style of the late Renaissance with extensive farm buildings. Peter Candid implemented numerous winding and cover paintings in the lock.

After war destruction old person was restored the lock 1972. The large hall is particularly worth mentioning in the center of the building, for which today the entrance hall forms.

New lock

The new lock Schleissheim was built between 1701 and 1726 on behalf cure prince max of Emanuels after plans by Enrico Zuccalli. Originally was intended to extend the plant including and change of the old person of lock to a four-bladed baroque residence. This plan was not converted however despite repeated revision and reduction from cost reasons. Besides the twelve-year-old boy Spanish succession war impaired the building project substantially; during the construction work then also still another part of the garden front collapsed. The large terrace over the picture gallery on the garden side is the result thereupon for static reasons of again changed structural drawings. Only starting from 1719 the front and the internal space decorations were implemented after plans by Joseph Effner.

Originally as summer lock (only few areas have a fire-place) and new residence planned, the lock inhabited themselves only rarely due to the not fulfilling political ambitions cure prince max of Emanuels and already at the beginning 19. Century of the public as "„gallery lock "“accessible made. Under Leo of Klenze 1819 besides some changes at the front were made, which should lend a klassizistischeres exterior to the baroque building; among other things this let the small Giebel over the Corps de Logis and the of the rooflights remove.

The monumental plant covers a generous stairway, which changes into the white hall in such a way specified and forms with this a baroque space work of art, splendid festival rooms and the parade rooms of the pair of cure princes. In the equipment important artists participated such as Johann Baptist Carpenter, Cosmas Damian Asam and Franz Joachim Beich. The original furnishing, so far still available, is today for konservatorischen reasons to a large extent stored or in the residents of Munich residence issued.

The new lock Schleissheim is opened for visitors and can be visited.

Lock desire home

The lock desire home, delighted starting from 1685, lies in the park of lock Schleissheim and of cure prince max of Emanuel as desire and hunting seat was used. Convenient on an artificial island, it forms the conclusion of the park from the new lock seen. In the former festival rooms of the lock today a porcelain museum is accommodated.

After ten-year repair works the neighbouring Renatuskapelle was again-opened in August 2005.

Lock park
