Lock Craheim is one of the youngest locks in Bavaria and lies when sharpening living in Lower Franconia, district pig ford and market municipality Stadtlauringen

Building history

The lock was built very late for such a building; the construction period was from 1908 to 1910. Cause for the building was the marriage between the royally Prussian ride master Crafft baron Truchsess of and to sharpening house and Clara Erhart, a German-American daughterdaughter daughter. 16. May 1908 - Order for building the entire closing and garden plants to the architects
15. June 1908 - Beginning of the building preparations (depth drilling for the water supply in the valley, approx. 300 m of the lap, zufahrtsstrasse, planing the building site, demolition of the hill point around approx. 4 m)
30. June 1908 - Foundations are set
1. July 1908 - Permission of the plans by the royal office for district in yard home ith Ufr.
20 August 1908 - Grundsteinlegung
30. September 1908 - Completion of the main building (outside) and the auxiliary buildings in the carcass

29. October 1910 - Key delivery after completion of the buildings and the today still received park plant.

Since the Building Department did not want to decrease the building without second stairway, in the southeast corner of the inner court a stairway was later cultivated to the south wing. The Bavarian building code was particularly strictly considered on fire safety around 1900.

The total costs amounted to 1.534.813, - Goldmark. The name lock Craheim was formed from the first names of the designers Crafft and Clara.

For some years the lock stands under monument protection.

While the lock was used as school, a multi-family house for teachers became and two workshops for the vocational training of the pupils, on the area of the lock establishes. One of the workshops was converted and is used now as guesthouse, torn off the other one about 1999.

In the last years on the area around the lock due to the current use still further buildings were established approximately, which do not impair however the original built volumes.

1998 were finished placed the house of the coming universityty Jesu way, a sister and Exerzitienhaus
2000 was established three single family houses for coworkers of the conference center.

Both building projects originate from the feather/spring inhabitants of Zurich of the architect Hans Dieter

Architectural style

The lock (front and park) is ajar from the outside in addition, against the style of the baroque and Rococo, shows klassizistische elements. Inside are as far as possible still all in the original received to area (apart from furniture). However all area particularly were never developed.

Use history

1943 the Oberkomando of the German armed forces seize the building
1944 - 1945 the lock serve the armed forces as military hospital
The lock and use it seize April 1945 the Americans first as military hospital for prisoners of war
June until October 1945 the lock serves the Americans as headquarterses
1946 transfer the internal mission of the Evangelist church to Bavaria the lock
1947 - 1948 use by the internal mission as home for war-blind
1948 - 1950 use by the internal mission for Russlandheimkehrer
1950 - the lock a boarding school, a school with boarding school accommodates 1967. Beside six-form high school and High School also training in different handicrafts became (ua. Carpenter and fitter) offered.
since 20.08.1968 use as meeting place by the "life center for the unit of the Christians"
2003 - some scenes for the film became the Sams in danger (direction: Ben Verbong) turned in sharpening living and lock Craheim.

Life center for the unit of the Christians

Here in the year 1968 the life center for the unit of the Christians lock Craheim was created by Christians of different konfessioneller origin and religious coinage. This establishment goes back on common experiences, which those men and women, theologians and laymen, with meetings, in particular with the church conferences in into which years after 1965 had.

The life center covers three independent works:

The meeting place lock Craheim, a Christian conference center with emphasis Seelsorge.
The sister and Exerzitienhaus with emphasis Meditation, meditation, Exerzitien were built for 1998 of the coming universityty Jesu way.
The catholic coined/shaped Franziskushof carried of the "structure community a church".
