The liberty memorial at the checkpoint Charlie in the proximity of the wall museum was a memorial for the victims of the GDR border regime, which was established on 31 October 2004 by the working group 13 August registered association and vacated on 5 July 2005. It consisted painted wall from 120 original wall segments of one white in the proximity of the original process of the citizens of Berlin wall, before which 1067 crosses stood as memories to the victims of the GDR border regime.

This action was strongly disputed in the citizens of Berlin public and much was discussed. Also the citizen of Berlin senate who is based on a SPD/left wing party coalition rejected it. For tourists the installation was however a popular point of approach.

Evacuation

Both permission and "„art action "“by the office for district center and the lease with the administrator of the area, the banking share company Hamm, ran out at the end of of 2004. Since itself the operator refused removing the installation again the banking share company Hamm submitted an action for eviction, to which on 8 April 2005 one allowed.

On 5 July 2005 the disputed evacuation was carried out. The bailiff let the intending crosses and the wall segments diminish despite violent protest from SED victims. The evacuation action retarded, since some demonstrators had chained themselves to the crosses and only from the police had to be removed.

The operator aims at further a reconstruction of the memorial.
