The knight plays (or knight tournaments) are an art form, which developed from those of the European Middle Ages.
With topics from the life of the then knights (and naturally also knight Ms) they kept on people stages and in bar hoar frost theatres until today.
In some alpine areas of South Germany and Austria the knight plays - in reaction to the public and today also as advertisement for some resorts - developed characteristics like the repetition particularly more cheerfully or "more grausiger" scenes. So some public favourites must die with the Pradler knight plays up to five times, and something similar was reported "with the Tschauner" in the Viennese outlying district Ottakring.
At some places knight plays have also the form of Weihespielen - whereby them also - as in the Middle Ages - symbolic combat plays on special anniversaries to become to be able. So is for example Sinjska alka (1.8. - 3,8.) in Croatia a traditional knight play, which takes place in 2 concentric, with iron staffs abgezirkelten circles. The participants to horses aim in full Trab with the lance into the middle circle or to other special places.
The knight plays of the today's time are rather opportunities for family trips, like e.g. honour mountain - the time journey in (Reutte/Tirol), Kaltenberger knight tournament in validity village.
The "Alka" is committed in Sinj as memory of the conquest of Croatia by the Turks starting from the year 1463 and of Sinj 1536. Several unsuccessful rebellions failed, until 1686 - three years after the 2. Turk FE storage of Vienna - which succeeded to release by Providur Cornaro. The fact that Sinj celebrates the knight plays in August is connected with a back conquest attempt the Turk 1715, who was scarcely repelled after destruction of the city however at the Marienfeiertag 15 August.
