The Kalvarienberg Schwabegg is a high-medieval tower hill castle (moth) over the again-gothical parish church of the of local part Schwabegg in the district Augsburg (Bavarian swabia). Beside the high earth cone of the main castle still area-pure and small wall remainders of the fore-castle kept.
About a kilometer south the Kalvarienberges lies the large earlymedieval Hungary protection castle waste dump castle on the value-oh-led. After the battle on the Lechfeld the large barrier plant served still some time as seat of the of the diocese Augsburg. End 10. Century shifted the its seat on the vineyard, a protruding area tongue over the today's cemetery and the again-gothical parish church. The sex of the Mr. von Schwabegg placed the Vgte from approx. 980 to his becoming extinct in the year 1167.
Subsequently, the rule came to the Staufer and 1268 at duke Ludwig II. by Bavaria was pawned. The castle is to have been finally besieged and destroyed 1208, 1372 and 1422. In 19. Century was transformed the large tower hill to the Kalvarienberg and with a Kreuzigungsgruppe.
The unusually high and steep tower hill was put on partly artificial to the area projection/lead of the vineyard at least. The earth cone is high over 10 m, the summit plateau is appropriate for about 60 m over the value oh level. The eastern side seems partly slipped or abgegraben to be, the today plateau (approx. 20 x 10 m) carries the Kreuzigungsgruppe of the Kalvarienberges.
The small fore-castle on a pre-aged southwest, is cultivated, it however still kept some smaller brick wall remainders of the strong Ringmauer with two modern residential buildings. The range east the tower hill was surely formerly included into the Bering. In the west, the north and the south the steep rock slopes protected the Veste.
The castle place made formerly a comprehensive overview possible of the Alpine foreland from Augsburg to the high mountains. Today the area however closely bewachsen is partly wooded and, the prospect is strongly reduced by the high trees.
