The Houbirg is a celtic weir system in close proximity to Happurg in middle Franconia. Received are remainders of the partial still 10 meters high walls in their length of 4,5km the area of nearly a square kilometer enclose.
The plant lies on a mountain plateau in 486-617m height into more favorably strategic situation over the side valleys of the Pegnitztales. The area was already in the middle Bronzezeit (approx. 1600 v. Chr.) settled. In the resounding place time (approx. 500 v. Chr.) to approximately 330 v. Chr. existed an attachment plant, whose remainder is still visible today. This plant was at this time one of the largest South Germany.
From this time ceramic(s) pieces of broken glass and bronze booklets as well as glass beads were found.
The name of the fortification, to which also the name of the municipality Happurg decreases/goes back, decreases/goes back to to save = to the mountain for defense to withdraw itself.
