Gries is a municipality in Tirol (Austria).

Geografie

The border municipality to South Tyrol (Italy) is because of the burner passport in the Tiroler part Wipptals. In the Gemeindegebiet the Sill rises. History

Already since the Roman time Gries is an important station before the passport, on the way into the south. Many well-known historical personalities made here rest, like Karl the large one, on their way over the alps Albrecht Johann Wolfgang von Goethe and Wolfgang Amadeus Mozart. Since the completion of the burner motorway the transit traffic does not lead any longer by the village, and Gries became a rather calm holidays place without mass tourism. The road hotels exist here partly already for centuries.
