Douglas Ward is the author of an evaluating listing of cruise ships. For example the restaurant leader of Michelin appears to Berlitz in English language in annually updated edition in the publishing house and enjoys similar attention as. In contrast to this Ward does not test however the ships anonymous.

In the expenditure 2005 256 ships are registered; the star evaluation distributes itself at the point as follows:

• 5 stars plus: 1 ship (ms Europe, thus "“best cruise ship of the world"”; for the fifth time in consequence)
• 5 stars: 19 ships (SeaDream I, to SeaDream II, putting Seabourn, Seabourn Pride, Seabourn Spirit, Queen Mary 2, Silver Shadow, Silver Whisper, Hanseatic, Silver Cloud, Silver wind, Sea Cloud II, Hebridean Spirit, Sea Cloud, Crystal Serenity, Crystal Symphony, Hebridean Princess, Seven Seas of marine ones, Seven Seas Voyager)
• 4 stars and 4 stars: 122 ships

The German expenditure of the book left the shipping company Deilmann in the year 1998 after one as wrong investigates to outstanding evaluation judicially to stop. Since then it any more does not appear. Criticism comes occasionally also from shipping companies, whose ship was evaluated, although Ward was not on board sighted yet. In addition many once evaluated ships are not again classified later. Specialists criticize also obvious mistakes, which are not yet corrected after several expenditures. Ward visited according to own data each year approx. 40 to 70 ships and spent meanwhile over 900 cruises undertaken (of it more than 150 Atlantic crossings) and over 5000 days on lake.
