Both digging in the Westerholz (on the castle) about two kilometers are south to the castle ruin stop mountain on the Lechrain in the district Landsberg because of the Lech (Upper Bavaria). The castle place was already used in the Bronzezeit and developed in the early and/or the high Middle Ages.
Piece of broken glass finds within the range of the small dig in the bronze, and Roman time were dated.
Extended toward end of the early Middle Ages the large one dig to the today's extent. In addition, the plant carries some typical characteristics of a smaller Hungary protection castle, could a gentleman seat or a fastened yard have been.
For the function as Ansitz the small core work at the slope edge and - still visible - the size of the castle speak. Hungary-temporal characteristics are the approximation obstacles, the poured fore-castle barrier and - broken through later - the next to last barrier before the core work.
In the high Middle Ages the castle served rather clearly as Ansitz. For this speaks above all the small tower hill, which was submitted to the main barrier. Some smaller tuff and tufa right parallelepipeds around the hill, which disappeared today however, lay still some years ago.
In the first half 20. Century a hunt house with some auxiliary buildings was built into the barrier plant. The installations disappeared now up to some floor coverings.
Both digging are stations of the pre and early historical path of the district Landsberg at the Lech.
The attachment works are separated by a deep erosion gutter, which makes an ascent possible on the high surface. North this cut the area of the small ones dig separated by an arc-shaped barrier ditch from the The barrier is only maximally a meter high, which receives ditch only as flat hollow. The area is closely with thorny brush over-rampantly grows and only in the winter accessibly.
A similar - however substantially more extensive - barrier ditch has itself partly inside the large digs received. The exact time position of these two oldest attachment works is unclear.
The large one digs is south to the erosion gutter on the slope edge. A barrier with submitted ditch, high up to 4 m, runs from the head of the gutter to the steep rock slope. South an additional approximation obstacle is to the fore-castle because of the abort edge. The short barrier ditch is high and about 10 m long up to 3 m. The plan on the board at the castle entrance shows before it still another further piece of barrier, which was eliminated to a large extent however by the construction of roads. East the large ones dig has itself still in about 40 m longer - barrier ditch receive, which was bepflanzt however with young forest and therefore only badly to be recognized is.
Before the old gate gap on the eastern side a board with a layout plan and explanations stand for the history of the castle since 1984.
Behind the fore-castle barrier the low barrier ditch of the earlyhistorical attachment plant lies. Follows main barrier interpretable as "Hungary barrier the ", to which in high-medieval time a tower hill was submitted. For this obviously the soil of the barrier was again used, so that the barrier behind the hill is interrupted a further tower place is because of the southern barrier end, also the north end is easily superelevated and widened.
The tower hill before the main barrier is about 4.5 m highly. The summit plateau can have carried at the most a modest tower. The earth cone is one the smallest its kind.
As last earth work ditch and barrier of the core work follow. The arc-shaped barrier crown superelevates the interior around approximately a meter, which is west side by the progressive soil erosion threatened.
