Chamonix (dt: Tsamonyn) is an internationally renowned ski place and center of the alpine in France (in the region Alpes in the strike Savoie). 1924 took place in Chamonix the Ith olympic winter plays.

With its 10,000 inhabitants Chamonix is hardly comparable with other ski places, but represents rather a pulsating tourist metropolis, in which, one considers oneself the entire valley of Chamonix, at point times often more than 60,000 guests stops. Geography

Chamonix lies in the Chamonix valley in spectacular situation and by numerous highly rising mountains is surrounded. To the municipality Chamonix belong also still several local parts and/or localities like les Bossons, les Praz de Chamonix, les Tines and le Lavancher. In addition also still the place with the famous skiing area Les Grands Montets, in that count the recent and sportily active public dominated as well as Le route, completely in the north of the valley of Chamonix. Likewise in the north of the valley the mountain pass Col of the Montets (1.461m) obtain the transition after northeast toward Switzerland.

Skiing area

Chamonix is a center of the Freeridens and extreme ski driving. The highest point of the skiing area is the famous Aiguille you Midi with impressive 3842 m, on whose summits the second highest aerial ropeway of Europe leads. There is also one of the starting points for the mountain climbers, who open themselves to defeat the Mont Blanc lying over it. It is likewise the starting point for the famous, Blanche glacier departure mentioned over the Mer de Glace.
