The lock travel castle with (in close proximity to Ulm in Swabia) at the Danube was the master seat of Berthold I. of travel castle, the count von Geisenfeld. It was called castle travel castle original. Later there the refugees Luitpoldinger dukes in banishing lived. Today in the travel castle the University of Ulm under the direction of professor Michael Motz furnished its center of science.

History

The area of the today's lock was already settled before 4,000 years. From the five before-historical groups of settlements, which did not follow however directly one another, one knows today more details of a settling in the Jungsteinzeit and one in the Bronzezeit. The first castle plant becomes in the first half 6. Century mentioned by the geographer of Ravena, which appoints itself to the Goten Athanarid. In 10. Century was the castle in the possession of Berthold I., which was banished from Bavaria, since he betrayed the marching-up plans of king Otto I. Afterwards the castle from the written sources disappears and becomes only in 12. Century again in connection with some castle gentlemen mentioned. In 16. Century comes the change to the lock. 1604 lost the last group "“of the feudalen Mr. the travel castle"” (university Ulm). 1632 were down-burned the lock of Sweden. After the reconstruction travel castle was left 1763 at baron von Eyb. The last descendant of of Eyb died to 21. March 1851. Maximilian Alexander of Riedheim bought on 17 June 1852 castle travel castle. After the enforced sale 1920 by political unrests acquired to 6. March 1966 "“international Institut for scientific co-operation registered association"” the lock.
