The high-medieval castle stable Thurneck lies over the local part Thurneck in the cock brook valley in the district Danube Ries in Bavarian swabia. The castle place is separated by an unusually broad and deep ditch from the high surface.
The castle was the seat of the noble-free Mr. von Thurneck, who were called for the first time 1251 with Heinrich of Turnekke in a document.
Already 1259 ago the castle must have changed over into the possession of the counts von Oettingen.
1259 exchanged Ludwig IIITH from Oettingen and the monastery Ellwangen castle and rule Thurneck with tubing brook for the Danube cathedral.
Beginning 13. Century called themselves the late of Steinhart Faimingen as leaning takers after the castle. The widow of Konrad of the late from Thurneck married a marshal von Oberndorf in second marriage.
1396 sat from Hoppingen on the Veste.
1523 sold George von Waal to Thurneck castle and rule the Oettinger.Die now uninhabited castle began to disintegrate and served starting from 1664 as quarry for a hunting seat behind the castle.
This hunting seat was extended again 1730. For this one broke stones off again of the ruin. The lock was again given up and broken off however around already 1835.
Today the castle stable is on private area and is from the forest over-grows.
The castle stable is appropriate for about 24 m on a hill spur protruding northwest, over the cock brook valley.
The castle place (approx. 30 x 75 m) is separated by an unusually broad and deep ditch from the high surface.
This section ditch is deep and about 30 m broad up to 16 m. In the west the steep waste protects the castle, at the northern end limits a low barrier the edge of ditch.
From the core castle only wall remainders and high debris latch plates kept. At the eastern side still another about 6 m long piece of wall is to be seen. In - approximately 1.5 m high - the break stone stone wall are some older right parallelepipeds.
The castle plateau is towered above in the center by a crest. A hollow marks here the location of the former donjon or apartment tower. The square building of towers might have measured outside about 9 x 9 m. Beside the high debris barriers still small remainders of the glare from small right parallelepipeds can be recognized.
