The castle rough-hit a corner (today usual way of writing Raueneck, "“wooded hit a corner, mountain spur"”) is the ruin of an office castle of the diocese peppering castle with Ebern, district of hate mountains in Lower Franconia. The ruin lies on the "“hood mountain"” over the local part Vorbach, surrounded by the mixed woodland existence of the nature park of hate mountains.

History

After the legend the castle is to have been established around 1180 after the destruction of the neighbour castle Bramberg by the refugees Brambergern. The family designated itself thereupon after its new castle. In the year 1231 the noble-free Ludwig von Ruheneke with the half castle and other real estate properties placed itself under the leaning sovereignty of the diocese peppering castle. This did not happen surely completely voluntarily. The family of Raueneck is to have expired already short time later.

In 14. and 15. Century sit those march alkene of Raueneck on the castle. After also this family became extinct 1550, the castle fell finally to the diocese peppering castle. The plant was held as seat still until 1685 and left 1720.

Since 1829 the barons are von Rotenhan owner of the plant, which purges almost unhindered since then.

Description

Parts of the impressive hussitenzeitlichen kennel plants with two round towers and a shooting oriel, the ruins of the Palas, the lategothical castle chapel as well as two are received.

Today one enters the plant at the eastern side over a stone elbow bridge 16. /17. Century. This bridge became necessary, after one shifted the main entrance beside the Palas and here the neck ditch before the kennel plants to cross had. An added earlier gate kept right from it in the ground floor of the Palas. The original main gate could have been in the wall gap before the chapel on the other side of the castle (reconstruction Zeune).

Unfortunately with the building of the bridge one of the two high-interesting shooting oriels of the kennel was eliminated to a large extent. The received oriel is acutely endangered, the left part already for decades collapsed in its existence.

Right the ruins of the already emergency-secured Palas (13 rise. - 16. Jhdt). The enormous Renaissance windows of the upper floor bring serious denkmalpflegerische problems with itself. One of the windows became already with a steel girder to venture. A small chimney installation is interesting in the tiny chamber beside the bridge. Here it might concern the gate guard tube. From the other interior land development only wall remainders and kept.

Whether the castle ever possessed a donjon, could not be determined until today.

Remarkably is still the ruin lategothical former castle chapel, which protrudes bastion-like into the neck ditch. Still finery remainders with the original Weihekreuzen are received. Unfortunately the straight chapel is very strongly affected by the increasing Vandalismus on the ruin. At the beginning of of 2005 was thrown for example a part of the beautiful Kaffgesimses of the exterior into the castle ditch. Around 1980 in the chapel during a robbery excavation a human skeleton was opened, which points on a Gruft under the place of worship.

From the valley-lateral kennel plant still two round towers, a long piece of the kennel wall are following to the left of the chapel as well as in to see more interpret as cistern, tower-like projection/lead.

Below a large fore-castle was pre-aged. Here still the Giebelwand of a large barn-like building stands upright. In the surrounding field further wall remainders are to find rock processings and a stone well trough. The entrance is further above to a roomy, artificially extended cave, which was used obviously as cellar.

Northeast the castle exhibits a powerful rock block clear traces of human treatment. On the top side a rectangular recess in in accordance with ice ELT became, possibly a further cistern. Gedenkstein next door reminds here of the unsettled murder at a Beerensucherin, that at the beginning 20. Jhdts. one committed.

The entire castle plant was built from the sandstone lining up here. Numerous beautiful architecture parts lie unconsidered and MOO-over-grow on the forest soil.

The plant is strongly collapse-endangered, is to become emergency secured however in the next years (starting from 2005) by the district. The private owner does not seem to have interest in preservation. The purge is accelerated by one to move Esoterik and Okkultismustourismus.

The castle is a station of the "“Burgenkundlichen of didactic exhibition"” of the district of hate mountains.
