The castle Rabenstein lies on rock over the Ailsbachtal in Frankish Switzerland (between Pottenstein and Waischenfeld) and belongs to the municipality maple valley.

History

The oldest parts of the castle are in the last quarter 12. Century as Ansitz in the rule Waischenfeld developed. At the same time a Ministerialiengeschlecht documented, which led the Raben in the coat of arms. Beginning 13. Century the fore-castle was removed. During the next centuries changed owners and inhabitants of the castle, which was destroyed 1460 and developed starting from 1489 by Konz of we mountain again.

1557 went the castle then from Rabenstein, which reacquired thereby their master seat. Daniel of Rabenstein converted the castle again 1570, whereby the former fore-castle was merged with the main castle.

In the war the castle was again completely destroyed, since the Burgherr Hans Christoph of Rabenstein on sides Sweden stood for that. After the war between 1648 and 1728 only - beside the restaurant yard - smaller buildings were restored.

1742 became extinct the sex of those from Rabenstein and the castle went to the counts von Wiesentheid, who transformed the castle ruin 1829/30 for a king attendance.
