The castle king mountain is a castle ruin in Franconias.
The history of the castle king mountain is closely linked with the history of the city king mountain. In the year 1168 with the building of the castle on the "vineyard of the king" on instruction emperor Barbarossas was begun. From the settlement of the building workers the city developed around 1180. The Roman castle plant was not particularly large yet. Only in 15. and 16. Century was extended the castle. At that time it, like also the city, belonged to the wettinischen rule range. In the farmer war it did not take damage. Beginning 17. Century the plant was converted under the Saxonian Dorothea Maria into a lock. The powerful Roman donjon was so badly damaged 1635 by lightning strikes that it had to be torn off. During the war the walls became ramshackle and easily to conquer, therefore a horde/hurdle soldier took them 1640 and penetrated from here into the city, where they put the gothical Marienkirche in debris and ash. After in the seven-year-old the defenses of the city the Prussian aggressors could not withstand war again, one tore the Stadtmauer and let the lock purge. Many used it afterwards as quarry, so that in 19. Century a few romantic remnants to only see were, when the mayor at that time of the city, acquired Franz Ronge, the plant. 1860 it let the former stair tower establish again and created so an observation tower. 1898 came ruin plant in possession city, so that itself 1921 an association, which could create "lock mountain municipality", which worried from now on about the receipt and reconstruction of the castle plant. This association opened the cellars, removed the Steinplatte from 1716 taken off castle wells, that this very day a depth from approximately 80 meters has and reconditioned all walls and washer.
The castle is good to reach and had parking lots and a restaurant with good-civil kitchen.
The observation tower and the castle well can be visited, the association ask only for a freiwillige donation.
