The ruin of the castle hop lies on a hill over the local part hop at the lake in the district in Bavarian swabia. From the high-medieval castle plant still some wall remainders kept.
The origins of the castle hop are unclear. Possibly it is to be equated with that one "firm castle ", into which Augsburger Gegenbischof Wigolt withdrew itself 1078 during the Investiturstreites.

The arrangement of the castle plant is today again clearly recognizable. That easily increases lying core castle with its tower-like main's building (apartment tower) and east a large forecourt was pre-aged to a chapel. In the northeast two section ditches and a fore-castle protected the Veste, which was secured by the steep wastes at the other sides.
The castle hop is as the earliest stone castle of the of special importance for the castle customer. The simple Ringmauer is not reinforced yet by buildings of towers or bastions.
Today the reorganized castle ruin is visited however mainly because of the prospect on the Ammergauer alps and the Tannheimer mountains. It was included however also into a transnational marketing concept, which would like to use the castle wealth of the region Ausserfern routistic.
