The castle Abenberg lies over the Middle Franconian small town of the same name Abenberg. It is called occasionally the crown of the Rangaues.
History
- 11. Century, the sex of the Abenberger emerges. Under count Adalbert II. (1040 ago - after 1059) is built to a large extent the first castle as wooden castle.
- 1130 - 1140 under count Rapoto (1122 - 1172) one of the imposantesten stone castles Bayerns (40 x 40m) is built.
- approx. 1200 come the castle by hereditary course of the last Abenberger count Friedrich II. to the Hohenzollern, the castle counts at that time von
- 1230 - 1250 the replaces the salierzeitlichen building by a partial new building, which they however hardly used. In addition the Ringmauer was broken off and the main castle on the double size was extended. The front side was thickened, to southeasthits a corner the militaryful Burgtor was established.
- 1296 are sold the castle to the prince diocese which furnished an office for maintaining here and which weak-fastened northwesthit a corner by a square tower strengthened.
- In 15. , 16. and 17. Century gives it a set of change work:
- Starting from 1496 the east front was provided with new buildings of male nurses. In the castle inside new restaurants' buildings develop. In the consequence the castle purges however.

- 1806 by the secularization come the Kingdom of Bavaria into the possession of the castle and continue to sell this immediately to the abort.
- Only 1875 acquire the resident of Munich art dealer K.J. Zwerschina castle Abenberg and save the castle from the total destruction. He even builds some towers. The next owner, the chamber singer Anton bulkhead continues the work Zwerschinas.

Excavation results
- The first castle could be proven by ceramic(s) finds and post holes as wooden castle.
- The first stone castle consisted 40 x 40 m of a large main castle. The main's building was a tower with 15,6 x 14.6 M. the brick-work was 2.5 m thickly and from sandstone right parallelepipeds. Directly south the main castle extended a large meadow, the tungsten of ash brook in Parzival as tournament meadow describes. This meadow is the only tournament meadow proven on Bavarian castles.
