Brotterode is a city in the district Schmalkalden Meiningen in Thuringia in Germany.
Brotterode lies in the forest at the foot of the large island mountain, directly to running paste between Tabarz and Trusetal.
Brotterode is old over 950 years. First documentary mention: 27. April 1039 as "Brunuwardesrot".
With the "large fire of Brotterode" on 10 July 1895 729 of 842 buildings burned down.
