The Botani garden Munich Nymphenburg is because of the edge of the lock park of Nymphenburg and is with a surface of 22 hectars and over 400.000 visitors in the year of one of the most important Botani gardens of the world. It belongs today to the national scientific collections Bayerns.

History

1809 came it to the establishment of the first Botani garden into Munich to a draft of Friedrich Ludwig Sckell and under the direction of Franz of Paula. The old person Botani garden lies in the proximity of the busy Karl place in the city centre. 1914 became therefore the new Botani garden before (at that time!) Gates of Munich in Nymphenburg put on. On initiative of Karl knight of Goebel planned these together the new garden as well as the garden architect of getting fields. Goebel became also a first director of the Botani garden Nymphenburg; Since 1966 the new Botani garden, the Botani national collection which are on the same area as well as Institut for systematic Botanik of the Ludwig Maximilians university in personnel union are led in each case.

Present directress of the Botani garden in Munich is Professor Dr. Susanne racer.

Mechanisms

In the Botani garden approx. 14,000 plant types are cultivated. In the greenhouses large over 4.500 m plants of damp-tropical areas, coolingtropical mountain forests and deserts are shown. Further mechanisms are the decoration yard, the Rhododendronhain, the Arboretum and the Alpinum. Together with its outstation, the mechanism serves the alpine garden at the Schachen (1,850 m) also research and teachings.

Popular meeting place is a which is in the midst of the rose garden.

Promotion association

For the support of the Botani garden the association of the society of the friends of the Botani garden Munich registered association together-found itself 1956.
