The 865 m high Blessberg is in the slate mountains (Thuringia Germany).

Geography

The mountain is appropriate for about 7 km in the district Hildburghausen between Sachsenbrunn and Steinheid, northeast from Eisfeld.

Sources of river

  • Werra: At its mountain-slopes height one of altogether two seized and disputed sources of the Werra, the second source of this kind rises lies in 797 m height to 7 km of far Zeupelsberg lying north nearby the federal highway 281 in 800 m.
  • Itz: At its mountain-slopes also the Itz rises.

Transmitting plant

On the Blessberg the German Telekom AG operates the transmitting tower "“Sonneberg Blessberg"” for UKW, radio relay link and TV. As radio tower a free standing reinforced concrete tower is used. This tower, which has no ranges regularly accessible for the public, is 195 m highly, about which the shank is high 107.5 m. In 35 and 45 m height possesses this tower two radio relay link platforms and in 55 m height a platform for the protection of the directional antennas from falling down ice breaking into.

Beside the evenly mentioned source of river these goals can be headed for: The association Saargrund registered association operates a moving home on the Blessberg in a former barracks building. 30 m a high observation tower 1997 were built beside it. 1902 were already torn here the first observation tower from steel girders established, however 1972 off on instruction of the government of the GDR, so that probably nobody could look after "“over there"”.

In the GDR the Blessberg was restricted area. The national People's Army used the high location for the Sicherstellung of radio communications along the border.
