The Berufsgenossenschaftlichen hospitals miner welfare is a clinical center of the Ruhr University Bochum.

History

In the year 1890 the miner welfare became (at that time: Mining industry Berufsgenossenschaftliche hospitals miner welfare) for the special accident supply of the mining industry workers establishes, in order to make possible faster and a larger number of workers a fast treatment. It is thereby the oldest clinic for accident cases in the world. Carrier is the Bergbau-Berufsgenossenschaft. Since the year 1977 the miner welfare is an university clinic of the Ruhr University Bochum in the context of the Bochumer of model. In 21 different specialized divisions up to 624 patients are stationarily treated at the same time. Thus the hospital secures a broad, highly differentiated spectrum at medical capacity ranges. More the clinical center miner welfare treats than 60,000 patients annually, over 10.000 operations, nearly 3,000 emergency surgeon car employments and 200 approaches of helicopter gave it alone in the last year. Scarcely 2,000 coworkers are busy at the BG-hospitals. Nine attached institutes, as well as numerous subsidiaries and companies for the subsequent treatment of the patients are at the de la Camp place, which hospital area with a size of over 72.000 m concentrates

Construction work

By the constant extensions and establishments of new bed houses and administration buildings the miner welfare achieves high patient comfort. New, straight under construction, bed house, whose construction costses amount to approximately 46 million euro, will tower above all other buildings and will make 253 bed places and 41 intensive monitoring beds available. Grossteilig is financed this building, as well as the whole clinical center by its carrier, the Bergbau-Berufsgenossenschaft, that is the legal accident insurance of all German mining industry entrepreneurs.

Apart from the mechanisms and institutions for the direct treatment of the patients and the administration three research institutes are attached to the hospital. It concerns the Berufsgenossenschaftliche Forschungsinstitut for industrial medicine (BGFA), Institut of the Ruhr University Bochum, Institut for dangerous material research (IGF), Institut of the Bergbau-Berufsgenossenschaft at the Ruhr University Bochum, and Institut for pathology of the Ruhr University Bochum at the Berufsgenossenschaftlichen hospitals miner welfare.
