The victory column at the large star in the midst of the zoo in Berlin was built from 1864 to 1873 after plans Heinrich Stracks and stands today under monument protection. Architecture

History

The formal-legal reason: With the victory column it concerned a building, which had been established before 1 August 1914. This date, the beginning of the First World War, was the deadline, which decided on receipt or breakup of such monuments. Even municipal authorities of Berlin for an outline of the building expressed themselves, however in vain. The bronze boards, which reminded of the wars against France and Denmark, were only removed to Paris. The relief over the German war of 1866 remained in Berlin and stored over years forgotten in the citadel Spandau. Only to 750. City birthday in the year 1987 the reliefs from Paris returned again and in consciously fragmentary condition, together with the relief remained in Berlin, again at the base were attached. 1989 were final the renovation of the victory column.

On 15 January 1991 by the revolutionary cells an explosive notice was committed on the victory column. An at least two kilogram heavy explosive device was attached at the prospect platform. The explosion led only to an easy damage of a supporting column, since the bomb did not ignite fully. Humans were not hurt, since at the time of the explosion nobody was on the prospect platform. Due to the repair work the prospect platform for visitors was 10 months long closed.

The peace angel in Munich honours also the generals of the French-German war and the thanks to the Bavarian army, is altogether however the peace following on the war dedicated. It was meant to that extent also as counter project to the victory column.
