The bed castle is a small mountain lock in the district of hate mountains (Free State of Bavaria). In the vernacular the bed castle is called therefore also "„landmarks of the hate mountains "“. The castle lies in range of vision to the 5500 inhabitants large city yard home i.UFr. (approx. 3 km).

The castle was mentioned for the first time documentary 1231. Actually it might be however older, since it is to an important road of earlier centuries directly because of the running way.

In the farmer war 1525 the bed castle was destroyed and rebuilt in the year 1535 under the direction of knight Balthasar Truchsess. The insurgent ones had at that time to apply a payment of damages of 10,632 guldens.

Until 1940 the lock served the aristocracy family Truchsess as domicile. Afterwards it became land boarding school, child land dispatch home and old people's home of the city peppering castle. In the Siebzigern the lock also a time was operated long as hotel. Today there a rehabilitation center "„of the drug assistance is registered association "“.
