The Bavarian army museum is military history dedicated national Bavarian museum in Ingolstadt.

History

The museum was created by king Ludwig II. in the year 1879. Until 1905 it was in the arsenal in Munich, in order to then move into a again established building of monumental at the yard garden in Munich.

In the Second World War the building was partly destroyed. The received dome of the old museum building in Munich forms today the Zentralbau of the again established Bavarian state chancellery.

The collection to military history arrived 1969 into the new lock in Ingolstadt, the former seat of the dukes of Bavaria Ingolstadt.

Collections

The museum contains a collection of weapons, articles of equipment, uniforms, flags, banners, paintings and medals with the emphasis on the Bavarian army. Besides extensive Diaramen with tin figures shows historical battles. Also pieces of booty from the Turk wars 17. and 18. Century like a richly verziertes round tent and blank weapons are e.g. shown.

1994 were opened a new department, which concerns itself with the First World War. It is accommodated in the former fortress work Reduit Tilly, which is opposite the new lock on the southern bank of the Danube and over a bar be attained can.

At present (in the middle of 2005) additionally the police-historical collection of the Bavarian police, which resided in Bamberg, pulls into the areas of the Bavarian army museum in the Reduit Tilly, which is intended as temporary solution however only. The police-historical collection of the Bavarian police generally contains historical over the Bavarian Gendarmerie, the time of the Bavarian police during the national socialism and the historical development of the municipality and city police as well as the land, water protection, bordering and auxiliary police.

Is planned on a long-term basis in the Reduit Tilly the structure of a department, which is concerned with the Second World War.
