The Bavarian administration of the national locks, gardens and lakes (short: Bavarian lock administration) with seat in Munich is directly the Bavarian Department of State of finances subordinate administrative mechanism, which cares for the locks, castles, residences, park plants and lakes, which belong to public funds under keeping of cultural and denkmalpflegerischer interests.

History

The origins of the administrative mechanism lie in the Colonel yard master staff of the yard administration. The today's essential structure was given it on 20 November 1918 as "“administration of the former Kronguts"”. Already since 1932 it carries the current designation.

Extent

At present the administration cares for:

  • 45 culture-historically outstanding monument plants (under it 9 residences, 14 plants with mansion or a close-like character, 10 plants with a militarydetention-castle-like character) at 32 places in Bavaria, which were predominant in former times in the possession of the Wittelsbacher. In addition also over 100.000 the single works of art and more than 6,000 valuable furniture, which are in the objects, belong.
  • 27 historical garden plants
  • 21 lakes, under it the largest Bavarian seas Chiemsee, Starnberger lake, bunting lake and the Bavarian part of the Bodensee.

Three expressed monument plants - release-resounds in Kelheim as well as fame-resounds and field-gentleman-resounds in Munich are located under their supervision like also a set of special cases: The Pompejanum Aschaffenburg, the opera house Bayreuth, the park Feldafing in the Starnberger lake with the rose island, the Augustiner Chorherrnstift on the gentleman island in the Chiemsee, the house of artists Gasteiger in wood living, the plant pc. at the king lake, different park plants of the residents of Munich city center, the king house at the Schachen and the house of artists Exter in field-pointed at the Chiemsee.

Numbers of visitors

The locks, castles and residences are visited annually by approx. 5 million persons. They are therefore a central component of the tourism landscape Bayerns and concomitantly an important restaurant factor.

Structure

The lock administration consists of a head department and following subsections:

  • Central and real estate property department
  • Museum department
  • Building department
  • Garden department
  • Restoration center.

The lock administration 17 external administrations and four branch offices (bunting lake, Chiemsee, Starnberger lake, Kempten) are subordinate.

Personal

Present president of the lock administration is Egfried Hanfstaengl. The administration employs approximately 850 coworkers.
