The Asamkirche (official pc. Johann Nepomuk) in Munich was established of 1733-1746 of the brothers Asam (Cosmas Damian Asam and Egid Quirin Asam). It is considered as one of the most important buildings of the two general agents South German church should originally as chapel in the meantime in Munich of the residents of brothers Asam develop. After it succeeded to Egid Quirin Asam between 1729 and 1733 to acquire several properties lain beside its house it established the church pc. Johann Nepomuk there starting from 1733 together with its brother Cosmas Damian.
The church was established without order and as private church in the higher honour of God and for the soul welfare of the building masters. The made possible the brothers also to build independently of the conceptions from clients to. So Egid Quirin Asam could look by a window from its private house directly on the high altar. Although the church was planned as private church actually, the brothers had to make it publicly accessible after protests of the population. Egid Quirin Adam conceived the church as Beichtkirche for the youth. Thus contains it sieve with allegorischen representations.
The baroque front is merged into the house escape of the Sendlinger road and swings only easily convex outward. Pc. Johann Nepomuk developed on closest area, property measures only 22 to 8 M. the more amazingly is the achievement of the two building masters, to who it succeeded, in the two-story interior architecture, painting and plastics to be connected harmoniously. In particular also the indirect light arrangement within the choir range succeeded very much: behind the Hauptgesims hidden windows light up the Dreifaltigkeitsfiguren impressively from the rear. The Hauptgesims seems by its swung guidance up and abzuwogen.
The interior of the church is vertically arranged into three sections, which increase in the brightness from bottom to top. The lowest section with the banks for the church visitors is relatively darkly held and symbolized in the organization suffering the world. The second, section convenient over it is white and bluish held and for the emperor reserved. The highest section with that indirectly and covers lit up ceiling painting is dedicated God and the eternity.
At the high age four columns are as reference to the four Bernini columns over the Petrusgrab in pc. Peter in Rome. In highest place God, the stands. Underneath the Tabernakels the Gebeine of Johann Nepomuk is kept as Reliquie.
Opposite a usually very strictly arranged baroque parish church the Asamkirche exhibits some peculiarnesses due to its characteristic as private church: The church is gewestet - and not as usual geoconstantly. Besides the crucifix attached opposite the pulpit is too low hung up. In baroque churches this is to hang more highly than the pulpit, so that also the Prediger must look up to Jesus.
With a bomb attack 1944 the choir was damaged strongly, manufactured only with the interior restoration from 1975 to 1983 after source study a hypothetical original appearance of the choir.
